Another Lightning

Decided to build my 4th English Electric Lightning this one for a friend. Have never made a flying model before, so something new. The aircraft will be of XS904 BQ which is based at Bruntingthorpe. Will be using silver leaf for the underside. Progress is going well so far.

Flight Sim

My old flight sim joystick has been playing up for a while and getting a bit old for modern sims, so have just bought myself a new Joystick and will collect tomorrow from Argos. Will report back on how good it is later.

All set up and working, amazing bit of kit for the money and what a difference it has made to my flight sim experience, very smooth. I have only pre-programmed a few buttons and this has made a huge difference from having to use keyboard presses.

Have decided to keep the throttle and joystick together and build a sliding shelf under my desk to place it on, but highly recommended.

Bruntingthorpe Cold War Jets days for 2018

Snow

Well we had a week of snow and ice which now seems a distant memory, nights are getting lighter too, so will get out and tidy up the garden in a week or two. Looking forward to getting back out on my bike as it has been ages now.

Squadron Plaque

For some time now I have been thinking of designing and making a Squadron plaque, so have got some air drying clay to model a maple leaf for my 5 Squadron plaque which will be made from solid oak wood. Now to get the design drawn.

First attempt using DAS clay, easy enough to work with and at the minute drying out, progress.

I found the clay easy to work with, a finger moistened with water helps to take off any sharp edges. Drying took a few days and I found it is best to turn the object over each day, as it tend to warp from the flat whilst drying, luckily I made a couple more and learned from the first one.

Project on hold for the minute as am busy building an Airfix F6 Lightning, but will return to the project when the Lightning is finished.

Demise of our Hoover

Our Hoover decided to pack up yesterday, stripped it down and found the motor housing where the drive for the belt was had broken away, no way of repairing the plastic part unfortunately. Time for a new machine, duly selected by my wife and being collected today, it is a Dyson this time round.

Hopefully this one will do the job and last as long as our old upright Hoover, time will tell

Binbrook Q Shed vandalism

Just read that the Binbrook Q shed accommodation buildings have been vandalised, the perpetrators using a stolen fork lift truck smashed the brickwork and virtually demolished the building.

P3D Flight Sim

Like to fly the English Electric Lightning model designed by Dave Rowberry and bought the F6 package from Aerosoft. Incredibly realistic and a far superior sim to Microsoft FSX which has now been abandoned, with no further support for the program. I have most of the models I like to fly apart from XR728 which was the mount of Gp Cpt John Spencer and alive and running at Bruntingthorpe Airfield where as one of the Lightning Preservation Group team work on occasionally.

Managed to find a really good model repaint of Xr728 and XR713 yesterday and have added them to the sim, making my collection more complete. Dave Rowberry also designed the F3 and T5 models which are available to buy and at present is designing the F53 model which will be out soon.

New Boiler

After many months of our old central heating boiler not performing as it should, decided to invest in a modern more efficient boiler. Had a few quotes from local plumbers and chose a worcester/bosch condensing boiler. With twin controller and a water filter, which keeps the water clean.
This was installed on 16th January and am really impressed at the efficiency and quiet running also opted for a remote thermostat which is easy to use. Just wish I had had this done years ago, but considering the old boiler was 16 years old, had done a reasonable job.
